Elite Sports Round-Up October 2023

Achievements, Celebration, News, Senior School, Sixth Form, Sports

Namyaa S, Year 8, Taekwondo

Well done to Namyaa who won a Bronze in the National Taekwondo Championship in October. She narrowly lost in her semi-final fight. Namyaa had to fight in a higher weight category than usual as she weighed in more than her category on the day, so this was a very good outcome for her. She will be building on this for future competitions and ranking.

Ellie G, Year 13, Volleyball

Last week, in the Arctic Circle near Rovaniemi, Finland, Ellie G, Year 13, represented team England in the U19 European Volleyball Championships. Despite a challenging start, the England squad reached the quarter-finals, where their opponents, Norway, posed a tough challenge and the England girls fell short in their pursuit of a spot in the semis. The play-offs saw some nail-biting action with England triumphing in a thrilling five-set game against the Faroe Islands. In another closely contested game, the England girls displayed remarkable grit and determination against Iceland matching them point for point, but ultimately the girls narrowly missed out on a victory. Well done to Ellie for her hard work!

Lola B, Year 7

Tennis

Well done to Lola who was runner-up in the Indoor National Tennis Championship 2023 in U11GD which took place in Corby.

Giselle F, Year 7

Tennis

At the beginning of October Giselle had an exciting opportunity to hit balls with former British professional tennis player Tim Henman.
