For our opening event to mark the start of British Science Week, on Friday 6 March we welcomed Dr Elizabeth Robertson, Director of Research at Diabetes UK and formerly Director of Research for Breast Cancer Now, to speak to Putney’s Medical Society about her own career in Science and the future of Diabetes research.

Other activities we have planned:

Our Sixth Form physicists will be taking part in the British Physics Olympiad.

Years 7 and 8 will be making lava lamps during lunchtime STEM Club.

Years 9 and 10 will take part in a lunchtime Physics quiz.

Sixth Form biologists will take part in a lunchtime Hot Topic talk on:  The microbiome and human health.

Sixth Form chemists will take part in a lunchtime Hot Topic talk: Pain, pus and poison: the development of novel medicines.

Lunchtime physics and engineering workshops will involve building a working hovercraft.

Junior school Science Club (year 5) will be modelling the spread of an epidemic using population modelling software.

Medical Society will debate the four pillars of medical ethics and its application to the Coronavirus outbreak.
