Gina

Gina in Year 9 is this year making her West End debut as Alice, in the stage production of Matilda.

Gina has been dancing since the age of two (culminating in her winning a national dance competition when she was 12 years old) and went through five rounds of auditions to win her role.

“The cast work on a three-week rotation with three or five shows per week followed by a week off”, Gina explained. “When I’m on stage and I see all the people out there I love the adrenaline rush. It makes you forget about everything else!”.

And how does she balance her acting with her studies? “It is challenging to keep up with school work but my Head of Year has been really supportive,” Gina told us.

With the show running for several more months we wish her every success.

Gabriella

Gabriella in Year 7 describes going to her first audition for Annie and having to sing “A Little Bit of You and Me” from the musical Frozen, but in an American accent. She must have done it very well, as she went on to win the part of one of the orphans, July, and joined the UK touring production in the summer with five weeks of rehearsals.

“I love singing and performing,” she told us. “It’s great if the theatre is full and I like working with Craig Revel Horwood (Miss Hannigan) who is really nice even though he makes his character really scary!”.

On tour Gabriella performs in nine shows per week on a three week rotation. She will be appearing on stage until the end of November 2023 (including in the nearby production at the Wimbledon Theatre) and then begins rehearsals for a role in the pantomine, Sleeping Beauty working alongside Carrie Hope Fletcher.

“Break a leg” to both from everyone at Putney High!
