Ramita Navai - GDST Alumna of the Year
Journalist, writer, producer and Putney High School alumna, Ramita Navai has spent a career spanning two decades fearlessly speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves. With a reputation for working in hostile environments, she has reported from over forty countries, made over thirty documentaries and features and worked as a foreign correspondent for print.
This year alone, Ramita has won the Grierson Award for Best Current Affairs Documentary for Afghanistan: No Country for Women, as well as the Rose D’Or Award. She was also named Royal Television Society Presenter of The Year 2023 for the film, which was described by the judges as “truly compelling” with an “astonishing depth of knowledge on the subject”.
Speaking at the GDST WoW event (Women of the World Festival) this year, Cheryl Giovannoni, GDST CEO, said:
“Our mission at the GDST is to support girls to learn without limits and give them the tools, freedom and power to make informed decisions, and fulfil their potential, on whatever path they choose to take – Ramita embodies this mission to the fullest.”
At Putney we wholehearted agree and are proud and delighted to see Ramita named GDST Alumna of the Year 2023.
