Music Festival 2019

Arts, Events, Guests, Music, Performance, Senior School, Sixth Form

Music Festival Heats Week

This year’s annual House Music Festival was one of the largest ever with featured performances in categories including Vocal and Instrumental Solos, Duets, Ensembles, Choirs and A Cappella.

The previous Friday saw nearly 170 girls and staff squeeze into the Elgar Room for the annual a cappella finals at the end of Music Festival Heats week.

Twelve groups from all year groups sang, danced and acted their way through a variety of contemporary repertoire – all from memory and in often dramatic style.

More than 230 girls came to perform over the whole of Heats Week, with some selected for the Spring Soirée and others for the largest ever Finals Day on Monday 11 February.

Music Festival Finals Day

In our largest ever Music Festival finals, we were treated to an extraordinary display of talent beginning with the Intermediate Instrumental Solos, and continuing through to Junior and Senior House Choirs, Pop, Folk Music and a cappella and Advanced Intrumental Solos, among others.

The day was adjudicated by Peter Gritton; composer, music director and Director of Music at JAGS – James Allen’s Girls’ School.

“I am still reeling from the sheer number of participants in this year’s Music Festival which must be a significant proportion of the school. Quite apart from the high standard of solo and ensemble instrumentalists there can’t be many schools that can field so many singers, songwriters and a cappella groups! The Music Festival had an inclusive warmth and showed how valued Music is at Putney High.” Peter Gritton

Well done to all our performers and thanks to the music department and the production team for a spectacular event.
