Henley Women’s Regatta 2023

Henley Women’s Regatta is the biggest regatta in the world dedicated solely to women’s rowing. Putney High Boat Club entered three crews this year.

Our J16 coxed four gained valuable experience on their first time down the track at the time trial inspiring them for the next 2 years.
We then managed to qualify the other two crews into the J16 4x (quad) top 8 boats, and the J18 coxed four, top 16 boats. This is the first time Putney has qualified a sculling boat into the regatta.
The J18 four raced a valiant and commendable race but unfortunately fell short to an extremely strong Henley A crew.
Our J16 quad raced side by side knock out races against the Scot’s of George Watsons College and the powerhouse of rowing Headington school to then finally meet the reigning National champions Henley in the grand final on Sunday.
The girls put in the most heroic attempt to rattle and lead Henley out the blocks. Putney had a fantasy start leading out the 1st 1000m but unfortunately the bigger crew of Henley managed to power through in the last 400m to take the regatta win.
We are so proud of our rowers here at Putney and glad to see that we are definitely back on the map as a highly competitive school rowing programme.
Our quad go again this Friday 23rd trying to qualify the first ever quad from Putney High School into Henley Royal Regatta.
