Guys and Dolls- Year 9 Production

Arts, Drama, General, News, Past Events, Performance, Senior School

The Year 9 production this year was Guys and Dolls.

Due to Covid restrictions, this year the production was split into five sections so that each Music and Drama class can take part in the musical.

The whole of Year 9 was involved in the production and auditions for the lead roles took place at the start of the summer term.

There were 60 actors, 12 band musicians, 19 students who worked on stage management, props and costumes and 17 who worked on lighting and sound. The performance was a treat for the eyes and ears!

Rubani P, one of the Year 9 performers, describes her experience of the performance below.

“Being an actor in the Year 9 production of Guys and Dolls was an amazing experience. To see Year 9 working together to produce an enjoyable performance with help from the teachers was great! The show had it all: chorus songs, solo singing, group dancing. There were many different jobs for us to do in preparation for this show. Not only were there actors and musicians, but people working on costumes, hair, makeup, lighting and we even had our own stage management team. Putting all these different aspects together, we managed to pull off an incredible show in a relatively short time period.

The part I enjoyed most was our first dress rehearsal. In lessons, we rehearsed our class’s part of the show. However, in the first dress rehearsal, we got to see all the different parts of the show put together for the very first time. There was also a lot of excitement surrounding the first dress rehearsal, as people were trying on their costumes, using props, and wearing microphones for the first time. By show night, we all felt prepared and confident to perform this amazing show to the Year 7s and staff. I thoroughly enjoyed Guys and Dolls, and I hope I have another opportunity to be in a show like it again!”
