Head of the River Fours Race 2019

On Saturday 23 November, three Putney crews (two coxless quads and a coxed four) raced in the Head of the River Fours Race, from Chiswick Bridge to Putney Bridge.

Five Putney crews entered to race originally but the organisers reduced the entry size due to stream conditions, meaning two of our coxed fours unfortunately missed out. The coxed four that did race was made up of four under 16 athletes racing in the under 18 category – they had a brilliant race finishing  5th in their category, showing good promise for the next couple of years.

Our top quad had a fantastic race; they executed their steering perfectly and showed great resilience. The team won their Band (categories were based on individual’s rowing points) but also finished second overall out of all Junior 18 quads; there were 36 squads participating in total.

This is the first time a Putney High School crew has won a pennant /category at the Head of the River Fours and all of the crews taking part were of a national standard,  so this was a really positive result.

The award ceremony takes place at the Fuller’s Brewery on Wednesday 15 January 2020.
