Eco Learning with Oasis Primary School

Community, General, Guests, News, Partnerships, Senior School

The Putney High Library team have been awarded funds from the HSBC & GDST Partnership Funding to run an Eco Reading and Learning project with Oasis Putney Academy, a local primary school. The project will run throughout the academic year with students from the two schools learning together and from each other about climate action and sustainability.

Over the past term, we have used some of the funds to stock their school library with books on the topic. Last Friday, we launched the flagship programme, The Eco Reading Challenge, a reading scheme where the primary school students are challenged to read a set number of books from their library’s new eco- collection. The launch was wonderful, thanks to the brilliant team of Putney students who helped at the event. The primary school students were a bit shy when they arrived but buzzing with excitement by the time they left. Mrs O’Brien, Interim Deputy Principal at Oasis Putney Academy, thanked us saying:

“Our children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the Putney High students were fantastic role models. The children were buzzing on the walk home and we had a group of girls saying they want to go to Putney High when they’re older!”

Special thanks to Lila and Mae in Year 10. They run PHS Sustainability Club and helped with the planning of the event and organised a couple of brilliant activities.
