#Classrooms to Care Homes

Community, General, Music, News, Pastoral, Performance, Senior School, Sixth Form

As Christmas approaches, our pupils usually enjoy coming together with senior citizens from the local community to sing festive songs and perform and listen to music at our annual Senior Citizens’ Party and at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability.

This year with Covid restrictions in place, we are instead taking part in the TES Classrooms to Care Homes initiative which has been connecting schools to care homes to help alleviate loneliness for older people and the care home staff this Christmas and beyond.

Our students have been busy recording performances of carols, poetry and other readings which are being sent to our local care homes and which we hope will bring some Christmas cheer until we can get together again.

Year 9 tutor groups, year group choirs and a capella groups have all been rehearsing and recording their Christmas performances for Leonard Cheshire Care Home in the last few weeks. The Christmas songs will include ‘Let it Snow’ and ‘Winter Wonderland’ and many more festive favourites.

The girls have really enjoyed performing the Christmas songs and getting into the Christmas spirit.
