The Atherton Award

We are excited to be taking part in the Atherton Award for the first time, a competition that recognises entrepreneurial spirit in young women. All pupils that have shown drive to set up their own business, an in-school initiative or event, or have even completed a coding course are encouraged to enter.

The winner of the prize will be awarded a Trophy, along with £500 to go towards the next phase of their entrepreneurial journey. They will also receive a day of mentoring with Amber Atherton or someone in her network.

Amber is a serial entrepreneur whose Y Combinator backed start-up was acquired by Discord. She is the author of ‘The Rise of Virtual Communities,’ published by Apress in 2023. Most recently she has crossed over into investing and is a partner at Patron VC, whose investment portfolio includes Tiktok, Strava, YouTube, Roblox, Duolingo, Ebay and Fitbit.

Through launching the Atherton Award she hopes to encouraging the next generation of women into entrepreneurship and careers in STEM.
