Art & Design Technology Exhibition 2019

Alumnae, Alumnae Events, Arts, Design, Events, News, Senior School, Sixth Form

This year’s annual Art & DT Exhibition opened last night with a Private View of students’ work from across the school.

There were examples of GCSE and A Level work in Art, Textiles and Design Technology on display, including an exceptional Year 10 mixed media Japan project.

The show was opened by Eleanor Tattersfield, Putney Alumna (Class of 1991), Arts Entrepreneur and Calligrapher who reminded students and visitors,

“You can make a living out of something you can just make up – if you have a little tenacity and if you love what you do.”

Eleanor studied A Levels in Art, Art History and Italian while she was at Putney and went on to read History of Art at UCL (specialising in European, Asian and African art). She told us, “I loved it more than life itself – I went to wonderful lectures  at the National Gallery in the day time and worked at the River Cafe in the evenings – it was the most  amazing three years of my life”.

Eleanor left UCL to learn more about the art business with independent dealers of Chinese and Japanese art and with Christies in New York. She went on to set up Marby & Elm, her family letterpress stationery and design shop based in Exmouth Market, London, doing bespoke print projects and supplying well-known retailers including Liberty, Anthropologie and Selfridges.
