We are excited to report that Celia M in Year 11 has been shortlisted to the final interview stage of the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship. Nationally, only the top-scoring applicants go forward to this interview, so it is a fantastic achievement.

Celia submitted a STEM project focused on a portable wind turbine for use following a storm if electricity has been cut off. In doing so, she addressed two of the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals – ‘Affordable & Clean Energy and Sustainable Cities’. Her prototype is an accessible source of renewable energy that improves housing standards in remote areas to recover from extreme weather.

Celia has a long-standing interest in engineering. She participated in the EDF bronze award and showed a flair for the design aspect allied to the organisation and determination needed to help the group realise their ideas. She enjoys all problem-solving activities and is thorough and accurate in all practical work. Celia has been awarded Putney’s science scholarship in recognition of her academic potential and dedication.

The Product Design department are incredibly proud of Celia’s achievement so far and wish her all the best in the next stage of the process.
