With the help of Putney’s Orator in Residence, Miranda Kiek, last night the Performing Arts Centre was the stage for a fascinating re-enactment of important speeches by some of politics’ most prominent female MPs of the last 100 years. These were interspersed with passionate speeches written by the students themselves.

Jill Lorimer, Chair of the Richmond branch of the Women’s Equality Party, attended to hear the speeches commenting, “I hope there are some future politicians in this room because they are all very impassioned and all very, very good.”

“I think it is fantastic that Putney is teaching Oracy. …it gives young people huge amounts of confidence to be able to speak to an audience and put across their message. It’s a life skill that I wish I had acquired much earlier in life.”
