Year 12 Young Enterprise “Collapsibox” won best product and best stand at the London South Central Trade Fair

Achievements, Blog, Sixth Form

On Saturday 5th March, the London South Central Trade Fair took place at Southside Shopping Centre in Wandsworth. This is an annual event in which a number of local Young Enterprise companies take part and sell products which they have designed and marketed themselves.

This year’s products ranged from vintage clothes to tote bags to painted bottles. We were lucky enough to have three teams from Putney who were trading at the event, and all teams performed brilliantly and learned a great deal.  Collapsibox, a team of eight year 12 girls, who sell collapsible plastic food containers, did exceptionally well winning ‘Best Product’ and ‘Best Trade Stand’.

The girls came up with the idea for their product when a number of them started to have packed lunches, and began to think how convenient it would be if they could reduce the size of the container once empty. Therefore, the idea of a collapsible box was formed, and the girls have since sourced and marketed their product.

On Saturday, they sold 30 products in total to the public, adding to their total sales of nearly 200 in the last month. Their customers included the Mayor of Wandsworth, who only purchased items from their stall!

One member of the Collapsibox team said, ‘It was a great feeling to get such recognition for all of our hard work so far’.

The girls are now starting to prepare for the next stage of the competition which is the Central South London Final held at Southbank University on the 18th April. Young Enterprise companies from schools in Wandsworth, Lambeth and Southwark will be attending the event, and two companies will be chosen to progress into the London Central Round.

In order to prepare, the Putney team will be focussing on practising their sales technique by selling at Putney High Junior School, Putney Exchange Shopping Centre, as well as preparing a report to present to the judges to account their journey so far. More recently, they have also started to explore the possibility of selling to large companies, and have had success within one company so far.

Congratulations to all girls involved in a Young Enterprise company this year. We wish Collapsibox the best of luck in the next round, and are looking forward to hearing all about it.
