Sixth Form
Sixth Form at Putney will bring you excitement, freedom and an intellectual thrill unlike anything you have had before.
Both of my daughters had a wonderful time at Putney, which gave them a springboard to follow their dreams, one at The Royal College of Art in The Hague and the other on a scholarship at Duke in the US. The support received played a huge part in their success.

Ghazal, Class of 2024
A Levels in Chemistry, Biology, Maths & Further Maths.
Ghazal joined Putney in Year 9, and quickly joined the Medical Society, inspired by sixth formers sharing their experiences. She went on to lead Med Soc and is now beginning her studies in Medicine at the University of Oxford. Her journey included shadowing a neurosurgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital and taking part in Putney’s Athena Programme of academic extension.
Jahnvi, Class of 2026
Getting involved with sport at Putney provided me with structure, enhanced my wellbeing and allowed me to spend time with friends. Whilst demanding, rowing has been a highlight of my time at school. Training with my friends has been massively enjoyable, and I hope to continue at university.
Putney provided many opportunities to explore higher education and careers. At a careers fair in Year 11, I got to talk to doctors in various specialties and to medical researchers. This gave me a better insight into both careers, which helped me to make my decision to study Medicine at university.
I chose Medicine as it provides an opportunity for me to combine my areas of interest in a meaningful and impactful career. I explored both the biological side of medicine and wider considerations for healthcare in my EPQ, where I evaluated whether a new Alzheimer’s drug, lecanemab, should be available on the NHS.
Putney has instilled in me the values of confidence, hard work and resilience which will help with my future studies.
Mia, Class of 2025
Putney encourages you to choose the subjects you enjoy. My favourite was Economics and it’s something I’ll be able to apply to my future studies. I’ll be doing two years in Segovia and two years in Madrid.
Putney really supported me with the various subject clinics and the International Universities Coordinator helped with applications. There’s always great support available.
The Sixth Form is really welcoming and with no uniform, you can wear what you feel identifies you. The way the two year groups integrate is special too. At the start of the year we did a central London scavenger hunt in mixed groups of Years 12 and 13, which was great fun. You also meet students lower down the school through all the clubs and sport teams. I played in the netball team, ran Psychology Club and was a Stark house captain.
Hana, Class of 2024
I’ve always been a maker, loving DIY and being hands on.
I hope to go to Japan and Greece because they are well-known for wooden furniture and their traditional joining techniques. I’d love to go into bespoke furniture making or even construction perhaps.
Putney has really facilitated my passion for DT and Textiles which involved a lot of coursework and studio time. The teachers helped me through all the ups and downs involved in practical projects. Young Enterprise too was a great way to learn more about what is possible.
I have loved diving headfirst into all the clubs and sports teams. I also played drums for a while and was involved in DT and Textiles clubs.
If you’re passionate about something it is always worth the effort. You don’t have to be a ‘STEM girl’, you can be a creative person and Putney will support you along the way.
Putney goes above and beyond with higher education support. Whether it is US universities, European universities, degree apprenticeships or UK universities, you are not left floundering even if you’re doing something less mainstream or want advice on practical things like student financing.
