On Tuesday 14 November 2017, Sophie Kinsella, author of the“Shopaholic” series, returned to Putney to inspire students with tales of life as a best-selling novelist. She talked about the challenges of starting out as an author, the processes involved in writing a novel, and how she makes her characters come to life.
Sophie, who attended the senior school between 1977 and 1981, is better known at Putney under her real name, Madeleine Townley, went on to write her first novel at the tender age of 24. Since then she has sold over 36 million books in more than 60 countries, and her work has been translated into 40 languages. She has written six standalone novels which have all been bestsellers in the UK, USA and around the world.“Confessions of a Shopaholic”, also a film starring Isla Fisher, and“My Perfect Life” are just a few of her best-selling titles.
