Wellbeing
At Putney, students feel safe, valued, and respected, with no limits to their learning. Their well-being is our top priority, supported by outstanding pastoral care.
Tailored Support
Putney’s pastoral care is proactive and preventative rather than reactive. Every member of staff has a pastoral responsibility with a holistic approach to physical and mental wellbeing woven into the fabric of the school.
Our highly trained pastoral team comprises tutors, Heads of Year, specialist counsellors, therapists and a Wellbeing Lead. From day one, your child will be supported with advice and practical support tailored to her needs.
An Inclusive Community
We celebrate our differences and champion collaboration and opportunities for all, whether through the diversity of our community, our “sport for all” approach in PE, or membership of our many student-led clubs and societies.
We listen to every pupil, encouraging them to feel secure and happy in their own skin, equipped to be the best that they can be, both in their studies and their life beyond school.
“Putney was never for one type of girl. Yes it was academic, but it was also for the curious, the iconoclast, the creative, and for girls who wanted to change the world.”

Groundbreaking Research
It Starts with Me
We believe that in all senses, ‘it starts with me’, so we focus not only on personal growth but on how each student can contribute to the wellbeing of the school community. We encourage integrity and compassion alongside a genuine sense of individual and social responsibility.
Our students learn to listen and respond respectfully, to disagree agreeably and to see the bigger picture beyond their own ideas or experience.
There are many opportunities for positive engagement and meaningful action through volunteering and our many partnerships programmes.
BREATHE
Our BREATHE programme is part of a holistic approach to wellbeing which helps students to develop a healthy sense of self, seeing their own wellbeing as intricately entwined with that of others and their wider environment.
We provide a dynamic PSHE curriculum and through peer mentoring, mindfulness and even gardening club, every day there are opportunities to grow in confidence and build the wellbeing toolkit that will last a lifetime.
“There’s a caring and holistic approach to the health and wellbeing of pupils, who are supported academically and emotionally by the school’s pastoral team.”

Operation Encompass
We are proud to be part of Operation Encompass, a national initiative that supports children who may have been affected by domestic incidents. Through this partnership, the police share timely information with our safeguarding team so that we can provide immediate care and understanding for any child who needs it. This ensures that staff are aware of circumstances that might impact a young person’s wellbeing and can offer the right support at the right time, reinforcing our commitment to every student’s safety and emotional security.
