At Putney, students feel safe, valued, and respected, with no limits to their learning. Their well-being is our top priority, supported by outstanding pastoral care.
Pastoral Care
Putney’s pastoral care is preventative not reactive. Every member of staff has a pastoral responsibility and a holistic approach to physical and mental wellbeing is woven into the fabric of the school.
Your child will be supported from day one with advice and initiatives tailored to the needs of individuals and their families, and plenty of practical support to help pupils to navigate the teenage years and grow into grounded and confident, young adults.
“There’s a caring and holistic approach to the health and wellbeing of pupils, who are supported academically and emotionally by the school’s pastoral team.”

ISI Report
It Starts with Me
We believe that in all senses, ‘it starts with me’, so we focus not only on personal growth but on encouraging integrity and compassion alongside a genuine sense of individual and social responsibility.
Our students learn to listen and respond respectfully, to disagree agreeably and to see the bigger picture beyond their own ideas or experience.
There are many opportunities for positive engagement and meaningful action through volunteering and our many partnerships programmes.
BREATHE
Our BREATHE programme is part of a holistic approach to wellbeing that builds awareness and helps students to develop a healthy sense of self, seeing their own wellbeing as intricately entwined with that of others and their wider environment.
We provide a dynamic PSHE curriculum and through peer mentoring, mindfulness and even gardening club, every day there are opportunities to grow in confidence and build the wellbeing toolkit that will last a lifetime.
Innovation & Initiative
Tailored Support
No child goes ‘under the radar’ at Putney.
An experienced and highly trained pastoral team comprises tutors, heads of year, specialist counsellors, therapists and a Wellbeing Lead, herself a qualified Child Psychotherapist. The team meet regularly to reflect any concerns and put in place appropriate support.
A dedicated Wellbeing Department offers a safe and welcoming space for students to visit either for some quiet reflection, or a listening ear.
An Inclusive Community
We celebrate our differences and champion collaboration and opportunities for all, whether through the diversity of our community, our “sport for all” approach in PE, or membership of our many student-led clubs and societies.
We listen to every pupil, encouraging them to feel secure and happy in their own skin, equipped to be the best that they can be, both in their studies and their life beyond school.
“We have marvelled at our daughter’s development in her years at Putney High. She has grown into a passionate student, a devoted and loyal friend.”
