Refugee Awareness

Community, General, Guests, Senior School

On Wednesday 12 June,  Year 9 and Year 10 students welcomed speaker Michael Mugishangyezi. Michael is the founder of the Cotton Trees Trust, a charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers.

Michael told his story about spending 20 years living as a war refugee and how the Cotton Tree Charity came about. Girls asked very insightful questions, including his opinion on the situation in Sudan.

The girls enjoyed the talk as they were able to learn more about the asylum seeking process refugees have to go through, from the perspective of someone with personal experience.
