Questions behind the Quiz Shows – PIE talk with Elizabeth Salmon

Have you ever wondered who sets and checks the questions on hit quiz shows like Pointless or Mastermind?

Elizabeth Salmon, professional Quiz Question Writer and Putney alumna (class of 1975) visited us today to give a fascinating insight into this specialist world of facts, figures and fairness.

Elizabeth left university to become a freelance book researcher and found a three-month attachment to the BBC turning into a 15 year career setting and verifying questions on Mastermind.

Since 2003 she has been freelance and worked on shows including Pointless and Million Pound Drop.

The greatest ‘take away’ for us all? In the age of fake news, “learn your authoritative resources” – how and where to find reliable information.

Thank you for an enlightening and very entertaining PIE at lunchtime talk.
