Enormous congratulations to Libby (Year 9), winner of the Royal Geographical Society’s Young Geographer of the Year award 2024.
The Young Geographer of the Year is the Society’s international competition which recognises outstanding work by school age geographers. The annual competition encourages thoughtful and creative answers to the competition’s theme which this year was to design a poster in answer to: why choose Geography – why studying Geography is a good choice, what areas of geography might be most useful to study and where these subjects might lead.
The RGS’s Young Geographer competition has been running for over 20 years and every year thousands of children across the world take part, making Libby’s achievement all the more impressive.
Libby was at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington on Friday 29 November to collect her award. She was one of the two Key Stage 3 winners. She told us,
“I was keen to do all the challenges over the summer because I absolutely love Geography. There are so many different paths and places it can take you. And there are so many different aspects, from human to physical geography – it’s just really fun. Learning about different cultures and places is fascinating.”
