Robotics fan wins Arkwright Scholarship

Chloe in Year 11 wins prestigious Arkwright engineering scholarship with her litter picking robot

One of Putney’s many robotics enthusiasts, Chloe in Year 11 has been awarded the prestigious Arkwright Scholarship for 2025/2026.

Chloe’s winning project was a litter picking robot (pictured) which she built to address the problem of collecting litter in nearby Putney High Street. As part of her application, she not only designed and built the robot, but had to complete aptitude tests in spacial reasoning, maths, mechanical and structural engineering in addition to presenting her project to the Arkwright interview panel.

“I had an interest in robotics which began to develop when I took part in the First Tech UK workshops at school. I realised I would like to get into engineering and am now thinking of going down a robotics, engineering or mechatronics route, which is a real area of opportunity with sea and space exploration such a vast developing area”. Chloe explained.

Many congratulations, Chloe. We look forward to seeing your robot in action!
