New Boats Kick Start Rowing Season

Celebration, News, Rowing, Senior School, Sports, Suzie Longstaff

This weekend the Rowing Club celebrated the launch of three boats, two of which were named in honour of great supporters of the sport at Putney High School.

Close to 100 rowers and their families attended the Start of Season BBQ, where they watched the launch of coxless quad‘Denise Lodge’, funded through the school’s Annual Fund, and coxed quad‘Suzie Longstaff’ funded by the Putney High School Rowing Supporters’ Association. Former headmistress Dr Denise Lodge attended the event to inaugurate the boat named in her honour, alongside Headmistress Mrs Suzie Longstaff, who is also a keen rower, having coxed the Women’s Coxed Eights at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

A third boat,‘Best Before Eight’, was also launched, thanks to gifts from rowing parents. Mrs Longstaff thrilled the girls as she very ably coxed the eight‘For Pete’s Sake’.

Thank you to all the rowing supporters for your fundraising efforts last year.
