Medical Society were excited to welcome Dr Will Glazebrook a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at St George’s Hospital Major Trauma Centre.

Dr Glazebrook will be a familiar face to many, as he and his department have recently been featured on the BBC’s, 24 Hours in A & E programme.

Dr Glazebrook explained his route from Medical School to Junior Doctor, through to 10 years flying with London’s Air Ambulance. We were given a no holds barred view of the life of an emergency doctor, “working at the extremes of life”.

It was a fascinating and inspiring glimpse into working in A & E (or “Anybody and Everything” as he called it) where they receive a new patient every 3.5 minutes, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In his advice to Putney’s many aspiring medics and particularly to anyone considering a specialism in emergency medicine, Dr Glazebrook explained the many pros and cons of the job.

“Go with your eyes wide open – experience everything before you make any decisions about what you want to do.”
