Learning Goes Sky High

General, News, Senior School, Trips

A group of 16 Year 10 and Year 7 students travelled across Cambridgeshire to release a weather balloon and collect data. Students were able to track the ballon using a Raspberry Pi transmitter.

Unfortunately the balloon was not recovered on the day of launch, but it did eventually land next to a farm house in Long Melford, Suffolk.  From the collected data students were able to tell that the balloon reached a max altitude of 31,490m and was in the air for a total time of 2 hours and 28 minutes.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the trip and were really hands-on with the technology and launch of the balloon.
