Safe & Supported
There’s a sense of oxygen around Putney… The emphasis is on developing good citizens, ambitious and unafraid of success.
– Good Schools Guide
A Happy Family
Putney really is a proud, family community and, through empathy, collaboration and a strong moral awareness, our junior pupils develop as positive and productive members of that community.
In a school where everyone genuinely knows each other’s names, children learn to build the foundations of true friendships and positive, respectful relationships with their peers and staff members.
Pupils know that they can talk with any adult, not just their class teacher, and working with others they play an active role in shaping the culture of our school.
BREATHE
BREATHE is the whole school platform from which we deliver outstanding academic and pastoral provision. It encompasses:
- Looking after ourselves – Pupils learn the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle including taking care of our bodies and our minds.
- Looking after each other – Pupils learn to build and maintain healthy and respectful friendships, to be kind, to show empathy for others and to celebrate difference
- Looking after our world – Pupils take pride in our school and develop a sense of awe and wonder in the natural world. We aim for our pupils to be active and responsible members of the community.
Opening Minds
Every pupil from Years 1 – 6 has a timetabled wellbeing lesson, Opening Minds, to encourage her to develop a healthy, balanced and active lifestyle which will help her to thrive.
We focus on vital skills and qualities such as self-awareness, confidence, and self-efficacy, alongside developing strong collaboration and communication skills, for example the ability to actively support and champion one another, both as learners and in life generally.
It Starts with Me
Pupils play an active role in school life taking on roles such as Eco Ambassadors, Sports Leaders, Digital Leaders, School Council Reps, Playtime Pals, and Year 6 Prefects. Pupils are encouraged to ask, ‘What if everyone did that?’ and consider the impact that individuals have on the world around them.
House System
Our Junior School Houses, Marie Curie (Green), Ada Lovelace (Red), Wilma Rudolph (Yellow) and Rosa Parks (Blue) are all named after inspirational women following a vote by our pupils.
Being part of a House helps girls to find their way, make friends with other year groups and earn a sense of pride from working as a team. Together they raise money for their chosen charities and enjoy friendly events and competitions.
