Getting Moving
With experienced PE teachers and specialist sport coaches, every Putney pupil develops a love of movement and the physical literacy to support skill development and enjoyment of sport for years to come.
From Reception and KS1 there are two, hour long PE lessons each week and many extra-curricular opportunities to develop their skills. From KS2, pupils enjoy a games afternoon with fixtures against other schools, as well as separate weekly PE/Swimming lessons.

Putney High School is renowned for its sporting achievement and many girls go on to perform at County, Regional and National level. We have been named as a top 5 school for sport nationally for three consecutive years.
Sport For All
Through our comprehensive PE programme we want all girls to discover and develop:
- A broad range of skills and techniques in a variety of team and individual sports
- Sportsmanship and team spirit
- A deeper sense of wellbeing and the ability to manage emotions
- A love of movement
- A desire to participate competitively and non-competitively in sport
- Motivation to immerse themselves
Individual feedback and target setting encourages pupils to concentrate on their own progress rather than comparing themselves to others.
From Year 3 upwards, there are opportunities for every child to play in teams and take part in fixtures and tournaments against other London schools. This is as well as the popular GDST netball, cross country and swimming rallies.
