Goodbye to the Art Department’s Mr Murray

Achievements, General, News, Senior School, Sixth Form

"Thank you for being the best art teacher any of us could ever have asked for. We will miss you!"

Nigel Murray, a much loved art teacher of 22 years at Putney High School retires this year with plans to pursue his own work as a practising artist.

Mr Murray is not only a wonderful painter and draughtsman in a variety of media (working and exhibiting throughout his time at Putney) but a much-loved and inspirational teacher who has encouraged hundreds of students through his lessons in Art Room 2 and his “Drawing Matters” lunchtime classes and life-drawing lessons.

A regular in the choir and staff productions, his singing is renowned and he has been a formidable crossword team player in the staff room.

Staff and students will miss him greatly for his kindness and his gentle good humour. We wish him a happy and fruitful retirement.
