GDST MFL Festival

Events, News, Past Events, Senior School

Last Friday’s GDST languages festival was a fabulous opportunity for students in Years 7-10 to come together and celebrate language learning. Putney participated across all three Modern European Languages and were proud to represent the school for Latin for the first time.

Year 7 students took part in a spelling bee in their chosen language. Our Year 8 students triumphed, coming first place in their spelling bee with extensive knowledge of Latin vocabulary– well done to Mollie Davies, Inca Gardner and Kesenia Musatova. Their cultural quiz also proved an exciting and closely fought competition.

We were entertained by the Year 9 plays which were written from scratch by the students, and were runners up in both French and Spanish entries. Our humorous French entry, containing a rap, took the audience by surprise!

Finally Year 10 showed their excellent speaking skills in their poetry recitals. They gained impressive scores for their performances which demonstrated not only their excellent pronunciation in each language, but also an understanding of the poems on an emotional level. We left victorious with Laetitia Hosie-Lissac’s beautiful recital of the Spanish poem,Me Gustas Cuando Callas by Pablo Neruda, which won first prize!

Mrs Milne, Mr Yates and Mr Maskell were extremely proud of everyone’s performances. We look forward to yet more success in all languages at next year’s festival!
