Fastest Women’s Pair at Pairs Head

Gusty winds and sheets of rain did not prevent over 400 crews from competing in Pairs Head on Saturday, 6th October. Undaunted, four Putney crews rose to the challenge and braved the 4.5km Tideway course. Before crossing the line, the rowers would need to have first rowed the entire course to reach the start, shake off the shivers from sitting over an hour in the rain and navigate through choppy waters.

The pair of Lucy Miles and Jasmine Moore raced in the W18 2- Championship division. Steering well and overtaking multiple crews, they won their division by over 6 seconds ahead of the second place crew. What’s more, their finishing time of 16:12.3 earned them the title of Fastest Women’s Pair, ahead of 17 university and senior club crews. This is the first time that a Putney pair has achieved this honour.

The pair of Alice Bridges and Molly Gradidge, also in W18 2- Championship division, rowed well through the difficult conditions as winds forced boats perilously close to the side of the Embankment, finishing with a time of 17:12.9.

Competing in the W18 2- Club division, the pair of Lucia Wickham and Imy Bantick rowed with gusto and performed valiantly. They battled well through the screaming winds and overtook a crew.

The double of Isabelle Mueller and Julieta Gonzalez rowed in the W18 2xd Club division, finishing in a strong second place behind the winners from Emmanuel, with a time of 17:24.7.

A huge round of applause goes to all the rowers and supporters who came out to support. The PHSRSA umbrellas were definitely needed on the day!

Next in the calendar, PHSBC will travel to Bedford Head on the 14th October. Good luck to all!
