Entrepreneurship Assembly 2020

On Friday 10 January the school assembly was provided by the Economics and Business department who have uncovered some eye opening facts about the world of Entrepreneurship:

  • Female led businesses contribute about £85 billion to the UK economy
  • Nearly all UK businesses are micro: 96% of UK businesses have fewer than 10 employees
  • Significant gender imbalance: start up rates for business shows a gap of 5.7% 2019, and 6.2% 2018, men/women

A 2019 Putney survey revealed students’ reasons for starting their own business:

  • to manage their own time and combine with other activities (47%)
  • to support a social objective such as a CIC scored highly (42%)
  • the desire for material wealth (35%)

The assembly also gave students the opportunity to showcase their own entrepreneurial endeavours.

Two Year 8 students, Isabella M and Isabelle G reported on their current business activities involving design and customisation and fashion and accessory resale. Sinead B, Year 12, talked about her business creating and uploading digital artworks and commissions via Instagram.
