It's time to get excited

Your application has been successful; you excelled in the entrance test, impressed our staff at interview and now you’ve gained a place at Putney High School. But what happens next?

You’ll receive more detailed information from our Admissions team in due course, but in the meantime, we’ll show you what to expect over the coming months.

Before you start

We want to get to know you before you join us in September. To do this, we invite new students to a series of introductory events:

Getting to Know You

Early June

We invite all new pupils who will be joining us for the first time to a settling in day, filled with fun activities and ice-breaker games. We run a fact-finding tour around the school, and you’re given a map so that you can familiarise yourself with the building and grounds.

Let’s Get Started

Mid-June

This event includes our current Junior School pupils, in a Senior School taster day for the entire new Year 7 group. Students experience a typical Putney day, with three lessons in the morning (e.g. Art, Science and a Language) as well as a music class. You will get to know your Form Tutor and group, with the chance to meet a few of your new subject teachers. There is also the opportunity to sample new uniform from SchoolBlazer.

Primary School visits

Early July

In the last few weeks of the summer term of Year 6, a teacher from Putney will come to visit you at your Primary school. This is a great chance for us to get to know you better and to offer you a friendly face for when you arrive.

Once you've started

Starting Secondary School can be daunting but we’re confident that once you’ve been here for a few days, you’ll feel part of the Putney family. We make sure of this by giving you the best start possible.

During your first few days

Over your first days at Putney High School you’ll take part in a series of introductory activities. You spend time with your new Form Tutor, Deputy Form Tutor and Tutor Group, who are in the same House as you.

You’ll meet your Head of Year and Assistant Head of Year, so that you know who to go to with any problems. All students will attend whole school assemblies, as well as House assemblies, bringing you into daily life at Putney and offering the opportunity to meet girls in other years of the school.

Don’t forget that you’ll get straight into lessons (although for the first fortnight you won’t be set any homework) to meet classmates and get to know your new timetable. Importantly, you’ll get the chance to sign up for co-curricular activities, and if you’re ready, jump straight in to all that is on offer.

Over your first year…

Year 7 is a year for fun and finding your feet in a new school. You’ll make friends and begin to establish routines that will stand you in good stead. Here are just a selection of Year 7 highlights:

  • Year 7 Teambuilding day at the end of September
  • House activities – Music and Drama festivals, house charity events, inter-house netball, bake sales
  • iPad induction – introduced in PSHE and academic lessons
  • Choir performance at Royal Festival Hall for the charity, Barnardo’s
  • Sports Day
  • Drama production on the Bluebell Stage

We can’t wait to welcome you to the Putney community!

Lunch Menu

Putney is a nut-free school, but that’s about the only thing you won’t see on our menu over a typical term. We have a wide selection of dishes, with hot and cold food served at every lunchtime.
