Captain Sophie Dawes PIE talk

Alumnae, Careers, News, PIE, Senior School

We were delighted to welcome Captain Sophie Dawes (class of 2008) back to Putney yesterday for a PIE at Lunchtime talk.

Sophie holds the rank of Captain in the Adjutant General’s Corps – the army’s training and education service.

She told us about life in the Army, starting with her time at Sandhurst officer training, and the levels of fitness, teamwork and camaraderie that are part of life in the Forces.

From a six month tour at Camp Bastion, Helmand Province in Afghanistan, to mentoring solders in the Gurkha regiment in Brunei, she told us about the amazing opportunities she has had.

“It enabled me to see things that I could never have learnt about from a book”.

Her advice for anyone thinking about a career in the Army…

“Pursue team activities, they will help you learn how to work and communicate well. It doesn’t have to be a sport, anything where you’re collaborating will be good practice if you wish to join the Army.”
