Art Workshop with Oasis Primary School

Arts, Community, General, Partnerships, Senior School

This Monday, seven Year 7 students and three Year 12 students visited Year 5 at Oasis Primary School, guiding them with the creation of their panel for the A Place to Call Home collaborative art project.

Mr Wilmer led the colourful workshop and our students offered support and ideas to allow the Primary students to flourish in the creation of their collective art. The room was filled with creativity and laughter – and it was an exceptionally worthwhile collaboration for all involved. We can’t wait to see the work incorporated into the final exhibition!

As part of the work of the Wandsworth Schools Partnership this year, we have been spearheading this launch project supported by the Wandsworth Arts Service.

So far, 51 schools (Independent and State, including a hospital school and Pupil Referral Unit) and over 2000 pupils have been involved in the project. The collaborative work from all the participating students will go in display in one large exhibition at Southside Shopping Centre from 3 March 2022.

In the words of the lead artist Alexander Mourant: A Place to Call Home seeks to unify and foster links between independent and state schools in the borough of Wandsworth to nurture conversation and future collaboration.

Acting as a release from the distance and isolation felt during COVID-19, [the aim is to encourage students] to reconnect with their sense of belonging to and existing within a community, igniting the belief that community is a force for good – a place whose power derives from celebrating difference, diversity and collective working.’
