We typically admit two classes in the region of 22 pupils per class.

Key dates for 2024 entry:

Between Monday 8 and Friday 12 January 2024 Assessments

All applicants are invited in small groups to play, join in with some musical activities and carry out a few tasks linked to early maths, language and literacy.

These friendly and informal assessments take place in the Junior School and last for approximately an hour and a quarter.

Although our main intake is in Reception, we offer a limited number of additional places in Year 3 as the two classes increase slightly to 24 pupils per class.

11+ Entry (Year 7)

We are a down to earth school and want to make the 11+ assessment process as stress-free, and enjoyable, as possible.

Key Dates for 2024 Entry:

Bespoke digital assessment in Maths and English. All applicants will be invited into Putney High School to sit this approximately 1-hour exam on either a computer or an iPad.

Wednesday 17 January 2024 Athena Assessment

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a second and final assessment, including a one-to-one interview.

Sport Scholarship Assessments will also take place on either Thursday 11 or Friday 12 January for shortlisted applicants.

Music Scholarship Auditions will take place on either Thursday 18 or Friday 19 January for shortlisted applicants.

From time to time, vacancies do arise in other year groups. Our main intake is in Year 7 and Year 12 and we are therefore unable to guarantee the availability of spaces in the other year groups.

Please note, regrettably we are not accepting applications into Year 9 (September 2024) at this stage. You are most welcome to register your interest using the link below and we will contact you should we be in a position to hold occasional vacancy tests for this year group.

Following the application deadline, we will invite some applicants to attend an interview (and, where applicable, scholarship assessment) which will take place in early November.

Key Dates:

Wednesday 4 October, 12 noon Application deadline, including Scholarships
Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 November Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.

This will consist of two parts: A subject specific interview with a member of teaching staff, during which, candidates will be asked to give a 5-minute verbal presentation demonstrating their interest in/passion for one of their chosen A Level subjects. There will also be a short group session with a member of the Sixth Form team, to find out more about life at Putney.

Offer Information

Places are offered based on performance at interview, the personal statement, school reports and references. All offers are conditional on (I)GCSE results.

Our standard offer is typically based on achieving five GCSEs at grade 8 or 9, with at least a grade 8 in your chosen A level subject. At least a grade 7 must be achieved in Mathematics and English Language if these are not chosen for A-Level study.

We expect candidates to be achieving a grade point average of 7.5 or above to study 3 A Levels. For Further Mathematics a 9 grade at GCSE Mathematics must be achieved and for all those exploring the option of 4 A levels, we would expect a grade point average of 8.5 or above.

Scholarships and Financial Assistance

At Putney, around one in five pupils receives a bursary or scholarship to help towards fees.

Bursaries

A number of means-tested bursaries are available for pupils entering Year 7 or Year 12.

From full bursaries – which include fees, uniform and other extras to allow your daughter to be a part of everything that a Putney (GDST) education offers – through to smaller, tailored financial assistance packages, we are keen to support as many girls as possible.

Scholarships

Our scholarship programme is designed to recognise and reward potential and offer exceptional opportunity to those already achieving at a high level. Scholars play a prominent role in the life of the school, and are offered focused academic guidance to nurture their progress and help them to excel.

At 11+ (Year 7 entry), we offer Academic, Music and Sport scholarships.

For those applying to Sixth Form, we offer Academic, Art, Design, Drama, Music and Sport scholarships. Travel scholarships in Modern Foreign Languages and Sciences are also available for internal applicants.
