A Smashing Summer for Tennis

Achievements, General, News, Senior School, Sports

Tennis is a firm favourite with Putney students, with many participating in school, at local clubs and even gracing the famous grass courts of Wimbledon as ball girls. This summer two of our students aced their way to international competitions.

Annabel H (pictured right) played at the U14 Tennis Open in Basel, Switzerland, on a court named after a certain famous Swiss player, Roger Federer. She went all the way to the singles semi-finals and the doubles final.
She had to use some creativity along the way as her partner for the doubles, Claudia, didn’t speak English. Google translator definitely came in handy once or twice!

Flora J is currently playing at Les Petits As in Tarbes, France, the biggest U14 tennis tournament in Europe which attracts many international players.

Over the summer she played many international competitions, improving her ranking to number 3 in the UK at U14 level and number 590 in the World Junior rankings. She has upcoming tournaments in South Africa and America so we eagerly await to hear how the rest of the year unfolds for her.
