A Level Art Gallery Trip

Arts, Design, News, Sixth Form, Trips

Year 12 and Year 13 Art students had a very productive and eye-opening day of gallery visits, beginning at the famous Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea. Students spent a couple of hours drawing a range of art, from textile inspired banners to feather sculptures and large scale primitive art paintings. It was interesting for all students to gather ideas and look at diverse and, at times, controversial pieces of art. Next we visited the Tate Britain where we were fortunate to visit the new Rachel Whiteread exhibition of sculptural works and drawings. She is one of Britain’s most successful female artists, making casts from ordinary things like hot water bottles, doors and windows, to the monumental Staircase casting. We also had time to look at some war paintings which are being studied in History of Art. Miss Bluck, Mr Murray and Miss Jennings found the trip every bit as inspiring as the students did.
