The Big Rowing Bank Holiday Weekend Round Up
‘Senior Success’
3 Days, 3 Regattas, 2 Locations, 76 Students, 5 Staff, 4 SILVER MEDALS
On Saturday 28 April the J14’s and J15’s raced locally at Chiswick Regatta in two Octo’s and 2 Quads gaining some first time regatta racing experience. Well Done Year 9 and 10.
On Saturday our senior squad joined the mix as Years 10 – 12 went to Dorney Lake to race at Wallingford Regatta. The first 2km multi lane race of the season. They were ready to put there training camp skills and fitness to the test to see where we rank as we come into the summer racing season. The two year 10 eights, two Year 12 coxed fours and the year 11 B Quad put in a commendable performance showing they are on track for being up there in the mix come National Schools in four weeks time.
Our stand out crew of the weekend was the Year 11 A Quad, an agonising 2nd was earnt at Wallingford after being just pipped to the post by a visiting overseas select South African crew. Lessons were learnt and race plans changed ready for the following day.
On Monday, the Year 11 quad returned to Dorney again for the first nationally ranked race of the season, The Junior Sculling Regatta, along with a J16 double and a J14 Octo and J14 Quad.
The 16 Quad, double and Octo all made it into the side by side racing after competing in time trials. Both the double and octo raced to a commendable 4th in their finals.
The Quad had a fantastic race and finished with silver medals just behind the dominant club rowing program of Henley. Congratulations Honor P, Lucy C, Emily P and Izzy (Habz) H-T.
PHSBC will next be racing at Thames Ditton Regatta and Weybridge & Walton Regatta. See you on the riverbank!
